True Prosperity

Writer: K. LemlerK. Lemler

Biblical prosperity means much more than just having money. In the Bible, the word "prosperity" often comes from the Hebrew word shalom, which means peace, wholeness, health, safety, and overall well-being. It’s about living a life in harmony with God, where every area—spiritual, emotional, physical, relationships, and finances—is blessed by Him.

In Jeremiah 29:11, God says, “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This shows that God wants good things for us—peace, hope, and abundance in every part of our lives.

While prosperity includes financial blessings, it’s not the main focus. In Deuteronomy 8:18, the Bible says, “But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” This reminds us that financial success is a gift from God and is meant to be used wisely for His purposes. It’s not about being greedy or selfish but about using what God provides to help others and share His love. Proverbs 11:25 says, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” When we use what we’ve been given to bless others, God blesses us in return.

God’s idea of prosperity is about thriving in every area of life. 3 John 1:2 says, “I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” True prosperity means living in peace, having your needs met, and being generous to others. It’s about trusting God to provide, following His Word, and letting Him lead you into the abundant life He promises. Prosperity isn’t about chasing after riches; it’s about pursuing God, the source of all blessings, and allowing Him to work through your life to bless others.
